Europe steps up its fight against fraud

On 25 September 2015, the European Commission published a new FAQ on the implementation of the EU’s sanctions regime against Russia pursuant to Regulation 833/2014, setting out the Commission’s understanding of various provisions in the Regulation. It deals with a wide range of matters, many of which will be directly relevant to financial institutions. These include guidance on how the sanctions regime impacts upon financial assistance, trade finance, emergency funding, loans and capital markets.
