Biography

Akbar is a corporate lawyer based in London. He practices across a wide variety of sectors with a focus on cross border joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, governance matters and continued obligations.

Akbar is a member of our India practice and is one of the main contacts for the firm on all matters relating to Pakistan. 

Akbar has an LLB and LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science.  Akbar trained with the firm and qualified in 2019.

M&A:

  • Advised Nederlandse Spoorwege on the sale of Abellio UK, one of the leading operators of rail services in the UK, to Transport UK Group Limited.
  • Advised The AES Corporation on the sale to Nebras Power of a part of its interests in mixed cycle power plants of 600+ MW in Amman, Jordan.
  • Advised a sovereign wealth investor on divestment arrangements relating to the sale of the premier office buildings in New York, London, Paris and Munich for €600 million.
  • Advised Pagatech on its acquisition Apposit and Tangio in Ethiopia.
  • Advised Quinbrook on the acquisition of a target company with all of the rights in respect of a grid stability project / synchronous condenser platform in Sellindge, England from Welsh Power.
  • Advised Quinbrook on the acquisition of a target company with all of the rights in respect of a grid stability project / synchronous condenser platform in Cilfynydd, Wales from Welsh Power.
  • Advised Quinbrook on the acquisition of target companies with all of the rights in respect of a grid stability projects / synchronous condenser platforms at Gretna, Neilston, Rothienorman and Thurso, Scotland from Welsh Power.
  • Advised Quinbrook on the purchase of a landfill gas portfolio with sites across the UK.
  • Advised Glenmont on the sale of the 25 MW Gruig, 12.5 MW Todmorden, and 20 MW Gortahile wind Farms.
  • Advised Nustar Energy LP on the sale of its bulk liquids storage business in the Netherlands and the UK to Inter Pipeline, carried by way of competition action.
  • Advised an Asian investor on the sale of a premium property at St James's Square, London valued at £223 million.
  • Advised an Irish renewable infrastructure company on the purchase of a 60 MW portfolio of wind farms in France.
  • Advised a natural resources company on the divestment of its assets in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Advised Lekoil Nigeria Limited on the settlement with certain intra-group companies and group restructuring.

Joint Ventures:

  • Advised Quinbrook on its joint venture with E.ON to construct a 230 MW battery power project in Uskmouth, New South Wales.
  • Advised British International Investment on its joint venture with the Gul Ahmed Metro Group in respect of 60 MW windfarm project in Sindh, Pakistan.
  • Advised a consortium, led by Kenya's Safaricom and including Vodafone, Vodacom, CDC and Sumitomo, on its winning bid for $850 million for first cross-border telecoms license in Ethiopia.
  • Advised La Macha on the investment in Akh Gold Limited, holding Gold exploration licences in Egypt, and joint venture in relation to the same with Elemental Altus Royalties Corp. 
  • Advised Equinor on its joint venture with bp in respect of the construction and operation of an integrated gas-fired power and carbon capture project at Teeside, England.
  • Advised bp on its joint venture with EnBW in relation to the development of two new UK offshore wind farms under the 2021 UK Round 4 Crown Estate seabed leasing round.
  • Advising a company specialising in the supply of nickel and cobalt products on a investments in and a possible joint venture in respect of a mine in Latin America.
