Our Summer Program

Our summer program offers students challenging and rewarding work, comprehensive training and strong career development in a professional, yet friendly, environment. Every student will be offered a comprehensive orientation and will have the opportunity to engage in work that aligns with their individual interests. Summer students are exposed to various practice areas and are involved with legal research, drafting of legal documents, and client meetings. Students also gain experience in the practical components of court appearances, closings, and related work. Each of our summer students is assigned two associate mentors who are there to offer their guidance and advice on general matters around succeeding as a summer student.

Our goal at the Vancouver office of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada is to provide our summer articling students with a blend of work experiences, in order to give them broad exposure to diverse areas of law and practice styles during their early careers. Upon joining our firm, you will be placed in a rotational system which includes the Solicitor and Litigation rotations, with 50% of your articles spent in each rotation. Our summer experience also includes numerous continuing education sessions focussed on such topics as legal research, writing, and understanding due diligence, media skills training, and business etiquette - all of which will be helpful as you begin your professional careers.

And we're not all work! We host a number of social events where you'll get to know other students and practitioners within the practice. A few examples include softball, an annual golf tournament, an annual student event at a Vancouver Canadians baseball game, and weekly teas with our library. We also host TGIF in our Sky Garden on Friday afternoons where there will be a selection of appetizers and beverages for everyone to share while debriefing the week's events and chatting with colleagues.

Our Articling Program

When you article with us, the demands will be high, as will be the rewards. As a student, you will have full access to our legal professionals at all levels and to the tremendous opportunities that a leading international legal practice can offer. Our partners and associates will take the time to get to know you, professionally and socially and will actively participate in the development of your student experience and, ultimately, your career as a legal professional. Each of our articling students is also assigned two associate mentors who are there to offer their guidance and advice on general matters around succeeding in articles and becoming a new lawyer.

Our goal at the Vancouver office of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada is to provide our articling students with a blend of work experiences, in order to give them broad exposure to diverse areas of law and practice styles during their early careers. Upon joining our firm, you will be placed in a rotational system which includes the Solicitor, Litigation and Unassigned rotations. Typically, our students spend three months in their Solicitor rotations, three months in their Litigation rotations, and the remainder of their articling terms in the Unassigned rotations, which allows them to customize their experience with us, based on individual preferences.

You will receive formal evaluations at the end of each rotation which are designed to assist you in continuing to develop your skills and to allow us to follow your progress. In addition, you'll receive training to help develop your legal research and writing skills.

We also host a number of social events throughout the course of the year where you'll get to know other students and practitioners within the practice.
