Biography

Jean Lee focuses on prosecuting intellectual property applications and managing IP portfolios, primarily in the field of life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and chemical arts.

Her patent practice includes originating drafting, legal opinions, and patent office proceedings for a broad range of clients, including large multinational corporations, start-up companies, academic institutions, and medical and healthcare professionals. She has also obtained patent rights or managed patent prosecution in various jurisdictions, including the US, Europe, China, Japan, and a number of countries in South America and the Middle East.

Ms. Lee also has particular experience in industrial designs. Her design practice includes developing design filing strategies using the Hague international design system, as well as handling Canadian design prosecution.

Ms. Lee is a recipient of the 2023 Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award, awarded by the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) for demonstration of significant leadership, commitment, and dedication to increasing awareness of IPIC along with the value and future of the IP profession in Canada.

Prior to law school, Ms. Lee graduated with an honours degree in pharmacology from the University of British Columbia. Ms. Lee worked at a Japanese chemical analysis company performing drug analysis, and interned at the biochemistry department of the University of British Columbia, researching in cancer drug development.
