Houston lawyer receives 2016 Woman of Distinction Award

Jamila Mensah (Houston) recently received the 2016 Woman of Distinction Award from The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, a nonprofit organization that offers emotional and physical relief to those caught in unhealthy circumstances.
Mensah, a senior associate in the Houston employment and labor practice, was born and raised in Houston, Texas. As a native Houstonian, she is an advocate of diversity and a citizen passionate about her community. She is also actively involved in pro bono and community service efforts. Mensah served as president and board of directors member of the Spring ISD Education Foundation from 2009 to 2014. She has provided pro bono assistance to organizations such as The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Houston Volunteer Lawyers, The Arc of Greater Houston and the Houston Bar Association.
The organization offers not only immediate safety and sustenance to women and their children but, equally important, it also provides hope that there's something better in the future.
The Woman of Distinction Award is given to volunteers who devote time to helping The Bridge Over Troubled Waters serve its clients. Honorees are well accomplished and compassionate toward the communities they serve.
Others who received this honorable award include: Carol Scott, La Porte Police Department crime victim liaison; Stacey Mitchell, Harris Health System administrative director; and community volunteer Vicki Lilly-Tallman.
The 18th Annual Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Houston Hobby Airport to acknowledge the recipients.
