Annette Haddad

Biography

Annette is a litigation and regulatory enforcement lawyer in the firm's risk advisory practice based in Sydney. She has a particular focus on financial crime and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing. Annette has advised AUSTRAC on regulatory investigations and enforcement action, as well as financial institutions in relation to compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws. 

Annette has over 6 years' experience in litigation and white-collar crime, including as a Senior Federal Prosecutor at a Commonwealth agency where she prosecuted serious financial and corporate crime, including criminal cartels, large-scale tax fraud, money laundering, foreign bribery and corruption matters.

AUSTRAC – Acting for AUSTRAC in civil penalty proceedings commenced against Entain Group Pty Ltd for alleged civil penalty contraventions under the AML/CTF Act.

Therapeutic Goods Administration Assisted the TGA with the progression and implementation of the introduction of the vaping chapter in the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 (Cth) prohibiting the import, manufacture, advertising, supply and commercial possession of unlawful vaping goods. 

Commonwealth prosecution agency Prosecuted large scale and complex prosecutions involving serious financial and corporate crime, organised crime and terrorism.

Royal Commission investigations – Assisted with the drafting of witness statements during the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry and instructed counsel at the Superannuation public hearings.

Department of Home Affairs – Acted for the Department of Home Affairs in judicial review proceedings. Annette was responsible for the daily management of over 50 migration files on behalf of the Commonwealth Government, including drafting advice, written submissions, preparing evidence and appearing as solicitor advocate in the Federal Court and Federal Circuit Court.
