On January 10, 2024, the Pensions Regulator published its long-awaited General Code of Practice, which has been laid before Parliament. The new Code is expected to come into force on March 27, 2024. TPR also published its final response to the 2021 consultation, which identifies the principal changes made to the final version of the Code. The Code is the culmination of multiple years of work from the Regulator with the aim of creating one clear set of expectations on how occupational pension schemes should be governed and administered. On 8 May 2025, the Court of Justice of the European Union (the CJEU) delivered its ruling in case C-581/23 (the Ruling), providing guidance on one of the conditions for an exclusive distribution agreement to benefit from the block exemption under Article 4(b)(i) of the 2010 Vertical Block Exemption Regulation (the VBER)1, notably the so-called ‘parallel imposition requirement’.
