Biography
Paul Jorgensen is an intellectual property litigator and life sciences lawyer. He practises in all areas of intellectual property law, with particular experience in complex, high-stakes disputes.
A focus of Paul’s practice is pharmaceutical patent litigation, where he combines deep scientific, legal, and industry knowledge to advocate for firm clients. Paul has acted for innovative pharmaceutical companies in proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations as well as infringement, impeachment, and damages actions under the Patent Act. He frequently works on global patent mandates and is familiar with patent laws in various jurisdictions. He reports on legal and regulatory developments affecting the pharmaceutical industry in Canada as co-editor of our Pharma in Brief bulletin.
Paul's practice also includes general patent litigation as well as trademark, copyright, and class action litigation. He maintains an active pro bono practice, with a focus on housing law.
Before joining the firm, Paul practised at a leading IP boutique firm, clerked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and was a Jane Coffin Childs Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School. He has a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and is an author on over 20 scientific publications.

- Represented Pfizer in various proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations (Bosulif®, Inlyta®, Xeljanz®, Sutent®) and the Patent Act (ElrexfioTM, Accupril®/Accuretic®)
- Represented Centric Brands before the Federal Courts in proceedings under the Trademarks Act
- Successfully defended Pfizer in first trial under the revised Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations (Nivestym®/NyvepriaTM), Impact Case of the Year Award from Managing IP (2021)
- Represented Hoffmann-La Roche and Genentech in the first proceedings under the revised Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations (Herceptin®)
