Biography

Christopher A. Guerreiro practises intellectual property dispute resolution and litigation, with an emphasis on patents and issues affecting the life sciences, healthcare, and other high-technology industries.

Mr. Guerreiro has spent much of his career working with life sciences innovators. As a litigator and advisor, he focusses on developing dispute-resolution strategies that align with the unique interests and business objectives of clients in this space—whether through litigation or a negotiated outcome.

Mr. Guerreiro has particular experience acting in complex patent infringement, impeachment, and damages disputes before Canada's federal courts. Among them, he was counsel on the first series of patent infringement actions brought under section 6 of the new Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. In addition to small-molecule and biologic drug cases, his patent litigation and related work has also involved a range of other technologies such as medical devices, vaccines, gene therapy, energy, consumer technology, and software.

Mr. Guerreiro is regularly consulted on issues relating to the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB), and has acted as counsel in industry-wide administrative law challenges to regulations and guidelines governing the PMPRB. More broadly, he also advises on other matters that are susceptible to litigation under the Patent Act and related legislation.

Mr. Guerreiro has been a member of the firm since joining as a summer student in 2011. He is an editor of our Pharma in Brief bulletin and leads a number of programmes related to associate development, substantive legal knowledge, and team-building within the firm. He is also an active contributor to process development and project management initiatives that drive efficiency in the delivery of legal services on complex mandates.
