Giannis Waymouth is a pensions lawyer based in London.

She has experience across a wide spectrum of pensions-related work for employers, trustees, lenders and insurance companies involving pension schemes of all sizes from one-man plans to very large GB£bn+ schemes. 

Giannis advises on corporate transactions (including IPOs, outsourcings and multi-national transactions), pensions scheme mergers, restructuring pension arrangements, winding-up pension schemes and investment agreements. She has also advised clients on liabilities to industry-wide schemes, such as the Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Scheme, and under statutory protective regimes such as applies in the electricity supply industry.

Giannis's experience includes advice on dealing with underfunded schemes, resolving employer debt exposures, the Pensions Regulator's moral hazard regime and funding requirements. Her recent advisory work includes trustee fire practice training, extensive advice on de-risking issues, such as pensionable pay caps and pension increase exchanges, and the investigation and resolution of systemic administrative errors.

Giannis has a spread of pensions disputes experience, from individual member complaints to involvement in High Court applications on rectification of scheme documentation and sex equality.

Giannis is known for her infectious enthusiasm for her subject area, combining commercial practicality with a strong technical understanding of her subject. 

Previously, Giannis worked in-house for Lloyds Banking Group as their pensions counsel, working closely with the pensions and treasury teams and gaining a unique insight into the challenges, capital adequacy drivers and internal processes of a large financial institution employer.  Key projects included:

• preparing for sex equality litigation;
• designing, validating and the Group's proposal for compliance with the pensions aspects of new and wide-ranging banking ring-fencing requirements; and
• unifying three separate trustee boards into one super board, involving transfers of over GB£40bn of assets, union challenges and questions from Members of Parliament.  

Giannis has also worked for three other leading law firms, advising on a broad spread of pensions issues and corporate transactions as well as writing blog pieces and giving talks on pensions issues.
