Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised Pearson Affordable Learning Fund (PALF), an investment arm of global education corporation Pearson in a funding round in Indonesian online learning platform provider, HarukaEdu led by PALF and Samator Education, alongside repeat investor CyberAgent Ventures.

HarukaEdu is a Jakarta-based startup that provides technology platform solutions to enable higher education institutions to offer degrees online. The funding will enable HarukaEdu to develop its partnerships with top higher education institutions in Indonesia to offer degrees online.

PALF invests in entrepreneurs who are improving education outcomes for low-income learners in the developing world, and has invested in countries including South Africa, Ghana, India, and the Philippines.

Sheela Moorthy, partner at Norton Rose Fulbright commented:

“This is an important transaction as it is an indication of developments in the education market as technological solutions expand to reach the wider audiences and drive competitiveness within the Indonesian workforce through accessible learning.”

The Norton Rose Fulbright team was led by Singapore based corporate partner Sheela Moorthy with assistance from associates Dexter Tan and Wayne Lee.  Benny Bernarto and Valiska Nathania (TNB & Partners, our associate law firm) advised on Indonesian law matters.
