Chaula B. Mehta is a senior associate in Norton Rose Fulbright's Washington, D.C. office. She focuses her practice on transactional and regulatory matters in the healthcare and life sciences sectors. Her transactional experience includes representing hospitals, physician practices, private equity firms, and other healthcare clients in the acquisition and sale of hospitals, physician practices, specialty pharmacies, physician staffing companies, and home health agencies. She has also advised global pharmaceutical, medical device, and health technology industry clients on collaboration, licensing, distribution, M&A, and other commercial arrangements.
Chaula's regulatory experience includes providing operational guidance with respect to state and federal healthcare fraud and abuse laws, state licensure issues, corporate practice of medicine prohibitions, and other healthcare regulatory compliance matters.
From July through December 2017, Chaula was seconded to Novartis' global headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. During her secondment, she worked closely with Novartis' global legal department as well as other divisions (business development, medical affairs, etc.) Chaula's responsibilities included assisting with asset purchases, divestments, promotional material reviews and analyses, and various additional transactional matters for Novartis' ophthalmology, respiratory, and other franchises.
After graduating magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University, where she majored in Neuroscience and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Chaula earned a Master of Public Health at the University of Virginia. She then completed her law degree at Duke University.
