Regionally headquartered in Hong Kong and offering services across Asia
Norton Rose Group, a leading international legal practice, has further bolstered its presence in Asia with the establishment of a new Intellectual Property/Technology practice regionally headquartered in Hong Kong.
Working across 8 offices in Asia, the IP/Technology practice will be headed by Gigi Cheah and Justin Davidson with a team of ten, including their entire former IPT group who followed them from DLA Piper Hong Kong. Cheah and Davidson will be responsible for growing the business and will report to David Stannard, Head of Asia for Norton Rose Group, and Michael Rebeiro, Head of Technology, Norton Rose LLP.
The move to establish a specialised IP/Technology practice for the Asia region reaffirms our commitment to clients and the region,” said Stannard. “Gigi, Justin and their team bring detailed Asia regional experience in this specialised area that will be of value to clients across a broad spectrum of industry sectors.”
Michael Rebeiro, Head of Technology, Norton Rose LLP, added:
“In the last year, Norton Rose Group has advised on approximately US$3 billion worth of deals in the IP/Technology sector and also on a number of new and convergent technology matters including ecommerce, mcommerce, and other IT and communications related matters. As Asia is an important market for international firms, we are able to provide a fully-global service offering from one source rather than clients seeking advice from multiple sources.”
Norton Rose Group provide a full range of commercial legal services throughout Asia Pacific and have been involved in substantial transactions in a wide variety of jurisdictions across all of Asia, covering all major practice areas – asset finance, banking, corporate finance, dispute resolution, project finance and now IP and technology.
Gigi Cheah at Norton Rose Hong Kong, commented:
“With the establishment of a fully-fledged IP/Technology practice, Norton Rose Group today has an increased capability spanning the entire region offering in-depth knowledge and guidance through often complex regulatory practices and a myriad of legal and commercial issues associated with international companies expanding their businesses in Asia.”
Justin Davidson, Partner at Norton Rose Hong Kong, commented:
“As Asia continues to attract international companies seeking to capitalise on increased consumer spending power, cheaper manufacturing and attractive tax breaks, clients can now access expertise from a full team, located in Asia, experienced in IP and technology that bolsters Norton Rose’s strong reputation in this area.”
