International legal practice Norton Rose LLP has advised Vodacom, South Africa’s largest mobile operator, on its acquisition of the carrier services and business network solutions subsidiaries of Gateway Telecommunications Plc and its subsidiaries (Gateway) for US$ 700 million Firm Value price. The deal closed on 30 December 2008.

Gateway is the largest independent provider of international and domestic connectivity across Africa, with operations across 17 countries. This deal represents a significant step towards Vodacom’s goal of positioning itself as a pan-African communications provider.
