Meet the team

Norton Rose Fulbright's tax litigators have tried to conclusion many federal tax cases, with over 90 published decisions. We have handled a wide variety of substantive tax issues, including transfer pricing; the proper characterization of transactions; valuation of securities, real estate, intangible assets, and other assets; determination of permanent establishment for tax treaty purposes; and business reorganizations. We also have extensive experience in challenging tax penalties; in defending investigatory judicial proceedings; and in tax collection actions.

Norton Rose Fulbright's lawyers have extensive experience in all facets of tax controversy, including audits, IRS Appeals, summons enforcement, and competent authority relief. We are trial lawyers, ready to litigate when an acceptable settlement is not forthcoming from tax authorities, and evidentiary privileges existing in many jurisdictions protect the communications with our lawyers that are essential to guiding our clients to successful resolution of issues in dispute.

Unlike many other law firms, a number of Norton Rose Fulbright tax lawyers focus almost exclusively on tax controversy and tax litigation matters.

International in scope, Norton Rose Fulbright's tax controversy lawyers have represented groups of clients to address global issues with IRS personnel. Also, Norton Rose Fulbright's tax litigators regularly speak and author articles on current tax issues and are active members of national, state and local bar organizations that address current tax matters.

Norton Rose Fulbright's tax controversy lawyers also have extensive experience representing individuals and companies in criminal tax defense. In many instances, we can work with a company to conduct an internal investigation to address accounting irregularities or tax compliance issues, or to help an individual or business wanting to correct past services, even in the absence of a pending government investigation.

We also have experience in all phases of criminal services, including sensitive audits, representation in IRS criminal investigations and Department of Justice Tax Division matters, grand jury investigations, criminal trials, service under the US Sentencing Guidelines and post-trial appeals.
