    A Townes-Hall Scholar in law school, Jim served as Chair of the Board of Advocates, a Notes Editor on The Review of Litigation, and on the Executive Board of the Pro Bono in January program. Jim also worked in the Criminal Defense Clinic, where he defended the accused in misdemeanor criminal proceedings in Austin, Texas.

    Recent experience

    • Defended an oil exploration company in a finder's fee suit brought by a staffing agency.  After a bench trial in which Jim presented opening arguments and three witnesses, the Court entered a take-nothing judgment rejecting the opposition's claims.

    • Represented an oilfield equipment company in an indemnification dispute related to a multi-million dollar acquisition, which resulted in a favorable settlement.

    • Represented an insurance company in a subrogation suit against a contractor who started a fire on insured property, which resulted in a favorable settlement.

    • Represented an oilfield equipment company in a commission dispute, which resulted in a favorable settlement.

    • Regularly counsels and guides clients through complex insurance coverage issues in connection with serious traffic incidents, workplace injuries and deaths, and high-stakes commercial disputes.  His insurance experience spans from commercial general liability to commercial auto to professional liability.


    Pro bono experience

    • Represented a Purple Heart-decorated Army veteran accused of committing a misdemeanor. The charge was dismissed.

    • Represented and secured a name change for a minor.

    • Regularly participates in the Veterans' Legal Advice and Saturday Legal Advice Clinics held by the Houston Volunteer Lawyers program.
