Norton Rose Fulbright Chairman, Sbu Gule, has been appointed President of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces - the statutory body governing the profession across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West and Limpopo Provinces in South Africa. Prior to this appointment, Sbu served as its Vice President for two years.
In this role, Sbu will preside over the Council of the Law Society which is responsible for regulating the attorneys profession in South Africa in terms of the Attorneys Act. The Council is also responsible for providing direction and setting strategy for the management and staff of the Law Society in executing its duties. Such duties include assisting members of the public who use the services of attorneys and in acting as a representative body for its members.
Additionally, Sbu is the Chairman of Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc, Vice Chairman of Norton Rose Fulbright and served as Global Chairman of Norton Rose Fulbright in the 2014/15 financial year. Sbu is a member of the Ethics and Guidance Committee and the Judicial Appointments Committee of the Law Society, as well as a committee member of the Gauteng Law Council.
Sbu has been involved in landmark cases in labour and employment law for over 25 years. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Labour Law at the inaugural South African Professional Services Awards 2014 (SAPSA). Sbu is the longest serving member of the management of Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa, having served on a number of management committees in various capacities for the past 16 years.
