The future of class actions in Australia

There has been an increase in the prevalence of class actions in Australia, mainly due to the availability of litigation funding. With recent legislative changes permitting law firms to charge contingency fees, the number of class actions are likely to increase. The recent Parliamentary Joint Committee report into litigation funding and the regulation of the class action industry has made a number of significant recommendations which, if implemented, will change the face of class actions in Australia. In this session our expert team of dispute lawyers will consider the factors driving the rise of class actions and how business can seek to mitigate the risk of costly and long-lasting litigation which can damage both the reputation and profitability of the business.

One in six working-aged Australian’s currently experience a mental health condition. It’s therefore vital to increase our mental health literacy to ensure the stigma around mental health is reduced, and to have strategies and techniques to continue caring for ourselves and others. This session will explore the myths and fears that exist around mental health, examine the most common mental health conditions and discuss some of the options for prevention, intervention, treatment and support that are available.
