Biography
Dr. Shantelle LaFayette practises in all areas of intellectual property law, with a focus on pharmaceutical patent litigation.
Prior to joining our office, Dr. LaFayette worked in the Invention Development and Entrepreneurship Assistance office at McGill University, where she carried out prior art searches and market research in order to determine which academic inventions were good candidates for patenting and commercialization. During the summer of 2019, she participated in our secondment program, in which she gained experience in the legal department of Pfizer Canada.
Dr. LaFayette holds a doctorate in microbiology and immunology, wherein she specialized in the lung immune responses to bacterial infections in individuals with Cystic Fibrosis. Dr. LaFayette also completed a master's degree in molecuar genetics that was focused on the role of protein kinase C stress signaling in antifungal drug resistance and tolerance. Her doctoral and master's research has been published in international peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals, and she has presented her research at international scientific conferences.
