Sbu is the Chief Executive Officer of Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc. He served as Chairman of Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc from 2012 to 2018. He is the President of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces (LSNP) and serves on the following LSNP committees: Management Committee; Ethics Guidance & Rules Committee; Finances & Human Resources Committee (ex officio); Judicial Appointments Committee; Gauteng Law Council (Councillor); Law Society of South Africa Council; National Library Committee; Attorneys Fidelity Fund: BOC Member (Alternate).
He was the Global Chairman of Norton Rose Fulbright in the 2014/15 financial year and Vice Chairman from February 2012 to March 2018.
Sbu is a member of the Ethics and Guidance Committee and the Judicial Appointments Committee of the Law Society. He is also a committee member of the Gauteng Law Council. Sbu is based in Johannesburg.
Sbu previously focused on immigration as well as employment and labour law. His practice involved representing major corporate clients based locally and overseas in all economic sectors as well as government and parastatals in all areas of employment and labour law and immigration law. Sbu has vast experience in advising on all employment aspects arising from business sales, restructurings and shutdowns. He has been involved in labour and employment law for more than 25 years and has written articles on the subject, some of which have been published in newspapers including the Sunday Times, Business Day and other law journals. He has been involved in landmark cases reported in Labour and Employment law reports and has gained experience in litigation in the Magistrate's Court and the High Court, as well as in commercial matters. He has acted as a judge in the Labour Court and has sat as an assessor in the High Court. Sbu was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Labour Law at the inaugural South African Professional Services Awards 2014 (SAPSA).
Sbu has been interviewed by many leading radio and television stations on a wide range of topics. He has also been profiled on the CNBC programme, "On the Couch", SAFM, Power FM and others.
Sbu is a graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (formerly University of Natal) where he obtained BA LLB degrees. He was appointed as a director in 2001. Before joining the Group he was a partner in a firm which was one of the leading black labour and employment law firms in KwaZulu-Natal. He is a member of the Global Executive Committee of Norton Rose Fulbright. Sbu is the longest serving member of the management of Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa, having served on a number of management committees in various capacities for the past 16 years.
