Biography
Abida manages our UK trade mark prosecution practice in London and is a dual-qualified lawyer and chartered trade mark attorney. She has broad experience in both private practise and industry. Abida has significant experience of: advising brands on global clearance and filing strategies; contested actions and appeals (oppositions, revocations and invalidity proceedings, often multi-jurisdictional); commercial coexistence agreements; infringement analyses and enforcement; portfolio management and rationalization; due diligence; and general advisory work. She also advises on domain names and designs.
Abida works across many different industry sectors, including: media and broadcasting; social media and entertainment; pharmaceuticals and medical products; consumer products; food and drink and fashion and cosmetics. She has acted for clients ranging from individuals and start-ups, to SMEs and large corporations and multinationals.
In line with her broad experience, Abida has acted before a number of different tribunals including the UK IPO, the EUIPO, the High Court and Court of Appeal, the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and the General Court of the EU.
She is a member of the International Trademark Association's Brands and Innovation Committee and was previosuly Chair of the International Trademark Association's Indigenous Rights Policy and Analysis Sub-Committee for four years. Abida is also a widely published author of articles on brands and 'soft' intellectual property and has written for the Journal of IP Law & Practice, IP Magazine, World Intellectual Property Review, Lawyer Monthly and Computer Law & Security Report.
