Joanna Tu

Biography

Joanna Tu is an intellectual property lawyer based in Vancouver. She is developing an intellectual property practice around nascent legal issues relating to computer science and related technologies, with a focus on patent prosecution.

Joanna assists with examination and drafting of patent applications in several technical subject matter areas, including software patents for computer science-based innovations relating to machine learning / artificial intelligence, cloud computing, visualization models, distributed ledger, blockchain, and trading technologies, as well as mathematically intensive technologies such as graph theory systems, power circuits, networking and cellular technologies.

Joanna first joined us in 2021 as an intellectual property summer articled student. After completing a second summer and her full articling term, she was called to the bar in 2024.

Prior to attending law school, Joanna graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science and mathematics from the University of British Columbia. While obtaining her undergraduate degree, Joanna gained valuable industry experience working at Intel of Canada, Ltd.
