Norton Rose Fulbright bolsters restructuring team with new London partner

Press release - People February 2020

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has announced the appointment of Alison Goldthorp as a London-based partner in its bankruptcy, financial restructuring and insolvency team.

Alison joins from Addleshaw Goddard where she was a partner for eleven years in the restructuring and insolvency team in London. She has over 30 years' experience in advising insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, directors, corporates, and turnaround professionals on restructurings, formal insolvency appointments, managed exits, and all related aspects of underperforming or distressed businesses. Alison acted for the most recent administrators of HMV in February 2019 in connection with the successful sale of the business as a going concern, and in relation to applications to court around the filing of appointment documentation out-of-hours. She has also recently advised a number of clients in the construction and project finance sectors with issues arising from the insolvencies of the Carillion Group and Interserve Plc.

Alison has been recognised for many years by Chambers for her contentious insolvency litigation experience as well as her non-contentious work, in particular in relation to restructuring of professional services firms.

Chris Brown, EMEA head of banking & finance at Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:

“Businesses in the UK and beyond are facing uncertainty from both Brexit-related and other factors, and with signs pointing to an economic downturn there is likely to be an increased need for debt restructuring and insolvency expertise. Alison’s experience acting for insolvency practitioners and directors alike is a great addition to our growing EMEA restructuring and insolvency team.”

Norton Rose Fulbright’s global bankruptcy, financial restructuring and insolvency practice has multidisciplinary experience and international reach. Based throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East, the firm’s bankruptcy, restructuring and insolvency lawyers handle some of the most complex and sensitive domestic and cross-border assignments across the globe. In the EMEA region, the firm has recently expanded with the appointment of Regina Rath as a restructuring and insolvency partner in Germany and with London-based restructuring and insolvency lawyer Matthew Thorn also being promoted to partner as of January 1, 2020.
