Houston lawyer named among Texas Lawyer’s 2021 On the Rise honorees

Houston partner Sumera Khan has been recognized as an "On the Rise" honoree by Texas Lawyer and American Lawyer Media (ALM) as part of the Texas Legal Excellence Awards 2021.

Winners are considered innovators in the legal field and are chosen for their strong leadership skills and influence in their practice areas, as well as a solid record of pro bono, charitable, and volunteer work.

Khan is a thought leader and trusted adviser for her clients and the firm in the areas of eDiscovery, information governance, and data privacy. She has counseled clients in the insurance, energy, healthcare, and pharmaceutical industries, handling complex strategic decisions in large litigations and leading cyber incident response efforts on behalf of numerous corporate entities. Khan's commercial litigation practice is marked by substantial trial and appellate experience, including oral argument to the 14th Court of Appeals and briefing to the Supreme Court of the United States, 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and Texas Criminal Court of Appeals. Khan has devoted a significant amount of time to pro bono representation, including leading efforts in two death penalty matters, litigating a contentious child custody dispute from trial through appeal, and serving as a Court-appointed amicus attorney in family courts in Harris County.
