Biography
Ed Patterson's broad practice consists of complex litigation and arbitration with an emphasis on industrial, maritime and energy-related matters. He became partner in the Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. Houston office in 1997. In the course of his practice, Ed defended clients in a variety of personal injury, death, products liability and breach of contract cases. He also regularly represented clients in estate litigation and alleged breach of fiduciary duty matters and advised foreign and domestic insurance companies in regard to insurance coverage and excess insurance issues and handles various commercial matters in litigation and arbitration.
In 2012 Ed left the firm to become Deputy General Counsel for Phillips 66 Company in Houston. In that role, he managed Phillips' global disputes, including Antitrust, Intelectual Property, Class Actions & Employment. Ed worked cross-functionally within Legal and throughout Phillips 66 developing relationships with HR, Finance, IT, Customer Care, Operations, Sales and Marketing and other business units and provided advice and counsel to various internal teams to proactively address and resolve potential disputes while providing risk mitigation advice.
After retiring from Phillips 66 in 2022, Ed returned to Norton Rose Fulbright as Of Counsel in April 2023 and is consulting and advising Firm clients on a broad array of topics.

- Co Trial Counsel for a pharmaceutical company in a $500,000,000 seven week tax controversy trial
- Lead counsel in litigation involving an explosion and fire at a large chemical manufacturing facility in Houston
- Lead counsel for an international chemical supply company in litigation arising from an explosion and fire in Costa Rica
- Lead counsel for a tanker owner in a case involving a collision with a dock facility in the Houston ship channel
- Lead counsel for the manufacturer of law enforcement equipment in product liability matters
- Lead counsel for a refinery owner in litigation arising from its operations in Aruba
- Lead counsel for a tire manufacturer in product liability litigation
