Marc Shapiro is a partner in Norton Rose Fulbright's New York office and a member of the firm's global real estate practice. He concentrates on real estate and real estate finance and has more than 35 years of experience representing institutional lenders and private investors in sophisticated debt and equity transactions involving real estate.

Marc has represented clients in over US$26 billion in financings and equity investments involving more than 800 properties in 50 US states, the Caribbean, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Southeast Asia, including more than 350 hotel properties. He has also represented lenders and borrowers in more than 750 loan transactions and 200 debt restructuring transactions including structured asset dispositions, and sales and acquisitions of single asset and portfolio debt in the secondary market. Marc counsels lenders, owners and operators  in complex financing, purchase, sale and leasing transactions involving office, shopping center, industrial, multifamily and hospitality properties.

In 1992, Marc represented an institutional lender in the first US financing of a non-performing commercial loan portfolio comprised of over 100 assets. In 1993, Marc established the first securitized lending program to the hospitality industry through a US$2 billion commitment from a major Wall Street financial institution. In 1996, Marc represented an institutional purchaser of the largest US hotel management company, with over 400 assets under management. In the past 20 years, Marc has represented clients in some of the most prominent US real estate transactions, including the acquisition of the largest US shopping center and the financing of the largest US luxury residential condominium tower.

In addition to US-based institutions, Marc's clients include institutional and high-net worth parties based in Europe, Asia and the Middle East who invest in US real estate. He regularly counsels and advises first-time, non-US real estate investors who are unfamiliar with US customs and practices.
