Biography

Marlene is an attorney, conveyancer and notary public and joined the real estate team in our Durban office as senior associate in December 2022. She has practised in this field for more than twenty one years and has extensive experience in both commercial and residential property transfers and bond registrations.

In her current role, Marlene deals primarily with Sectional Title Developments and Commercial Bond registrations for ABSA Bank and Standard Bank, the preparation of sale agreements for immovable property, lease agreements, option agreements and notarial deeds of servitude with supporting documents. She is also part of the Property team involved in Due Diligences on a number of Renewable Energy Projects. Marlene's expertise extends to opening of sectional title registers, consolidations and subdivisions, zoning issues and advising clients on all aspects of property transactions.  Marlene has previously attended to residential bond registrations for all the major South African banks and her notarial practise also includes registration of servitudes and long leases throughout South Africa.

Marlene has previously practiced at a number of leading Johannesburg firms and for her own account and has also held senior Legal Advisory roles in the Financial Services Industry. She completed her LLB degree at the Rand Afrikaans University (now UJ) in 1999 and holds an HDip in Insolvency Law and Practice which she obtained Cum Laude in 2012. Marlene was admitted as an attorney, conveyancer and notary public in 2002.
