On September 22, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) announced that most service fees at CIPO will be subject to an annual price adjustment in accord with the Service Fees Act. These new government fees will come into effect on January 1, 2021, and will be 2% more than 2020 fees.

CIPO indicates that these service fees will vary and reflect the previous year's consumer price index. Applicable fee increases will exclude those for copyright and most fees under $151 that are defined in the Low-Materiality Regulations section of the Service Fees Act.

Notices and other correspondence sent by the patent office prior to January 1, 2021, will refer to the fee that is applicable in 2020 only. However, all fees paid after January 1, 2021, will be at the new fee rate.

The new fees can be found at the CIPO Patent Fees website: https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cipointernet-internetopic.nsf/eng/wr00142.html
