Programme

Artificial intelligence: The business wants to do AI, what must it comply with? Update on UK regulatory position and status of the EU AI Act: In this session, we will look at how AI is regulated in the UK today and where guidance changes proposed under the UK AI White Paper have got to. We will also provide an update on the status of the EU AI Act, consider the points of contention slowing its finalisation and look at how it will apply to UK businesses. (Speaker: Marcus Evans)

Investigations: This session will cover the key practical steps to take at the outset of an investigation into a business based on our extensive collective experience in this area – including discussion of considerations for both internal investigations, and externally-driven investigations such those conducted by a regulator. Topics covered will include notifications, scope and communications. (Speakers: Katie Stephen, Joe Smallshaw and Rebecca Dulieu)

Remote working in the global workplace: This webinar will consider some of the key issues where employees request to work remotely from another country.  We will look at some of the differences faced by global employers and particular areas of concern, including which employees have the right to request remote working, health and safety issues, immigration, tax and entering into collective agreements. (Catrina Smith)

Financial services - Edinburgh reforms update: On 29 June 2023, the Financial Services and Markets Act 2023 received Royal Assent. Described by the Chancellor as a ‘landmark piece of legislation’, the Act contains a range of new measures and powers to enable the tailoring of financial services regulation for UK markets post-Brexit. Several of those measures have now come into force, including provisions enabling cryptoassets to be brought into the scope of regulation, the revocation of certain provisions of retained EU financial services legislation, and the creation of a new Designated Activities Regime. Alongside these legislative changes we have also seen a number of other developments, such as the publication of near-final draft secondary legislation and FCA engagement papers on proposed reforms to the prospectus regime, the outcome report of the Investment Research Review, and FCA proposals for a UK consolidated tape framework. In this webinar we will explore key aspects of these reforms and provide an update on their current status. (Speakers: Hannah Meakin, Jonathan Herbst and Matt Gregory)

Corporate: This webinar will look at the key changes being introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill which is currently going through the parliamentary process, with Royal Assent expected soon. One of the Bill’s main objectives is to tackle economic crime and improve transparency over who runs and owns companies in the UK and, among other things, it proposes a new corporate “failure to prevent fraud” offence and reform of the identification doctrine. This webinar will consider the implications of these changes for companies, their directors and members. (Speakers: Andrew Reeves, Claudia Van Gruisen and Jo Chattle)

Data protection update: In this webinar, we will discuss the key data protection guidance, decisions, litigation and legislative changes that have arisen in the last 12 months, focusing on the UK but also discussing key European developments that will impact organisations in the UK, including the Meta vs Bundeskarellamt ECJ decision. (Speakers; Lara White and Shiv Daddar)

Disputes: This webinar will provide an update on recent cases relevant to the work of in-house lawyers and company secretarial teams. (Speaker: Andrew Judkins)
