Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright advises SCALE.AI (Supply Chains And Logistics Excellence.AI), one of the five winning superclusters that will share up to $950-million in federal funding through the Canadian government’s Innovation Superclusters Initiative, a program aimed at promoting growth and job creation.

As one of the project team innovation partners that joined forces to work on a voluntary basis in this Quebec-based AI-powered supply chains supercluster, the firm advised this industry-led consortium on corporate governance, collaborative frameworks, intellectual property and data sharing.

The Scale.AI supercluster in Quebec will work on building intelligent supply chains through artificial intelligence and robotics.

With its myriad of commercial and intellectual property considerations, SCALE.AI will not only make it easier for Canadian companies to navigate and innovate but will also provide opportunities in AI-powered supply chains, thereby resulting in a strong innovation economy and positioning Canada as a global competitor.

With Norton Rose Fulbright’s support, the supercluster’s collaborative transformation projects will lead to the accelerated development and early integration of next-generation AI-powered supply chains in our economy.

Canadian research, businesses, start-ups and scale ups will reap the rewards of this collaboration through new innovative products and services, in turn being able to make a real difference in the Canadian ecosystem.

Anthony de Fazekas, the firm’s head of technology and innovation in Canada, said:

“We stand firmly behind this exciting initiative which will drive Canada’s vibrant AI community to economic success through AI-powered supply chains. As a global firm that is deeply entrenched in innovative communities across the world, we have seen first-hand how collaborative innovation can drive commercialization success. It was our privilege to leverage our international knowledge to the benefit of SCALE.AI. We look forward to continuing to support SCALE.AI and so many of our clients and friends who stand behind the supercluster’s efforts.”

Stephen Kelly, national chair of the business law group, commented:

“AI is embedded within our intelligence supply chain and is at the forefront of our firm’s business strategy across all practice areas. Our partnership with SCALE.AI is an excellent example of our work in this space.  With offices across Canada and our global platform, we are proud to serve our clients as they grow through this supercluster and many other AI initiatives.”

Norton Rose Fulbright has long-standing commitment to innovation and to the AI community both in Canada and around the world. The firm’s global network of artificial intelligence experts regularly share invaluable insights on the ethical and legal implications facing this new technological frontier via aitech.law

Headquartered in Montreal, SCALE.AI, which promotes an innovation ecosystem clustered in Quebec and Ontario, will receive $230 million in federal funding.

SCALE.AI was one of the nine projects shortlisted by the federal government in the AI-powered supply chains supercluster.

The AI supercluster is led by Quebec City-based Groupe Optel with the support of more than 80 partners.
