Multiple recognitions for Dubai banking team at IFLR Middle East Awards 2022

Middle East Press release - Recognition October 2022

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has been recognised for its banking and finance work in the Middle East through three accolades at the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) Middle East Awards 2022.

The annual IFLR Middle East Awards commend many of the most significant financial and legal achievements throughout the region, across a number of categories.

Norton Rose Fulbright’s Dubai banking and finance team was awarded Loan Team of the Year at the ceremony for its work on numerous transactions during 2022. The firm also advised on the winning deals in the categories of Loan Deal of the Year and Project Finance Deal of the Year.

Loan Deal of the Year was a newly introduced category for the IFLR Middle East Awards 2022 and was awarded for a cross-border, ESG-linked US$2.2bn facility to Nogaholding. The Norton Rose Fulbright team on this deal was led by partner Robin Balmer and advised the consortium, comprising lenders, on a conventional facility and Shariah compliant participants on a murabaha facility, structured in accordance with AAOIFI standards. This was the largest sustainability financing in Bahrain and the Middle East.

The winning deal in the category of Project Finance Deal of the Year was a cross-border, US$1bn, syndicated financing for an integrated agro-industrial project to establish and develop a large scale sugar plant in West Minya, Egypt. Norton Rose Fulbright advised Canal Sugar Company on this project, led by partner Angela Croker.

Mohammed Paracha, head of Norton Rose Fulbright’s Middle East practice, said:

“We are honoured to have our contributions to these important Middle East deals acknowledged in the presentation of these three diverse and highly significant regional accolades. Our recognition in these categories demonstrates the breadth and depth of our practice’s capabilities in a variety of areas. We look forward to continuing to support our clients on future projects throughout the region.”

Norton Rose Fulbright’s banking and finance practice has one of the longest histories of any law firm in the field and advises across the full spectrum of legal banking and finance matters, acting for parties ranging from multinational lenders to growth corporations, and including some of the world’s most prominent financial institutions.
