Calgary Senior Partner Anne Kirker, QC, appointed a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announces that the government of Canada has today appointed Calgary partner Anne Kirker as a new Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.

The Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta is the superior trial court for the province and hears civil and criminal matters as well as appeals from decisions of the Provincial Court.

Throughout her career, Anne has appeared at all levels of the courts in Canada and was frequently called upon to represent other lawyers and firms. In addition to chairing the Calgary litigation group, she serves as a Bencher and President of the Law Society of Alberta, as a board member of the Alberta Law Reform Institute, and as a member of the Alberta Lawyers’ Insurance Exchange Advisory Board.

Her experience and skill earned her a Queen’s Counsel appointment in 2012 and induction as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2016; a distinction extended to a limited number of experienced lawyers who have demonstrated excellence and whose careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism and civility.

During her time at Norton Rose Fulbright, Anne handled a broad range of legal issues including contract and commercial transactions, insurance, family law, personal injury, real estate, conflict of laws, class actions, wills and estates, tax and criminal procedure.

A former pediatric nurse, Anne studied law at the University of Calgary and was called to the Alberta bar in 1992.

A strong proponent of giving back to the legal community, she has devoted countless hours as a volunteer, mentor and instructor, a board member of the Alberta Law Reform Institute, and as a member of the Alberta Lawyers’ Insurance Exchange Advisory Board. After serving as Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta and member of its executive committee, she was the regulatory body’s president in 2016.
