Frances Drummond is an intellectual property lawyer based in Sydney and is Norton Rose Fulbright's Global Head of Intellectual Property.
She practices across all aspects of trade mark law including portfolio management, enforcement and exploitation. Frances advises clients from a range of industries on intellectual property strategies including pharmaceuticals, technology, retail and brands, transport, energy, infrastructure, mining and financial institutions.
Frances has over 30 years' experience practising in intellectual property law with more than 20 years in Australia and 9 years in Asia. Frances has worked extensively on Asia Pacific IP matters.
Many leading global and Australian companies seek her advice on the strategic management of their IP rights including Biofarma, Nine Network, Accolade Wines and multiple not for profit businesses which Frances supports on a pro bono basis.
Frances is an experienced advocate in oppositions and other actions before the Registrar of Trade Marks. She also has extensive experience of enforcement actions before the courts and administrative authorities across Asia and in the Australian Federal Court. Frances has acted on the IP aspects of numerous IPOs, asset and share sales and other commercial transactions.
She regularly presents seminars locally and internationally on intellectual property and associated rights. She authors numerous articles and publications on intellectual property law.
Frances is recommended by leading directories and during 2020 has been acknowledged by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a Leading Individual, by WIPR as one of their Global Leaders in Private Practice for Trade Mark Law and is recognised by WIPR globally as one of their eighty most Influential Women in IP.
Frances is admitted to practice in Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom and is a UK Registered Trade Mark Attorney. She is a member of the UK Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group.
Frances is a trained and accredited mediator and a notary public. Frances is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a director of a not-for-profit board.
Frances is an LGBTIQ ally and a member of the firm's Pride committee.
