Dr. Ettje Trauernicht is an intellectual property lawyer based in our Hamburg office.
Ettje has a particular focus on the area of life sciences, including the foodstuff, seed, biotechnology, agricultural and soft commodities sector. Her areas of experience cover all relevant intellectual property rights such as plant variety rights, trademarks and brands, patents and designs etc. She deals with the enforcement, licensing and transfer of these rights. Ettje also advises clients on false advertising and unfair competition law as well as on branding, advertising, marketing, packaging and labelling strategies.
Moreover, Ettje has gained substantial experience in German and Community plant variety law. She advises numerous breeding companies and their trade association as well as international agricultural companies on non-contentious and contentious matters. Several of the hundreds of court cases led by her went up to the German Federal Supreme Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Ettje gained her LL.M. from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and her doctorate from the University of Hamburg. She was called to the Hamburg Bar in 2007. She is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR). Ettje is a German native speaker and is fluent in English.
