Biography

Malibuye is a director in the banking and finance team based in Johannesburg.

Malibuye specialises in lending and syndicated lending and project finance and acts for the major commercial banks and development finance institutions.

Malibuye joined the practice in 2009 and was appointed as an associate in the banking and finance team in 2011.
Malibuye has a BSocSci (Public Policy and Administration and Political Studies) and a LLB from the University of Cape Town.  Malibuye is fluent in isiXhosa and English.

His work in the project finance arena includes advising sponsors and lenders in the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (SA REIPPPP) and in the South African Coal Baseload Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (SA CBIPPP).

Round 1 of the SA REIPPPP

  • Mulilo Renewable Energy: Acted as advisors to the lenders in relation to the structuring of the 10MW solar PV project in De Aar, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.
  • Mulilo Renewable Energy: Acted as advisors to the lenders in relation to the structuring of the 20MW solar PV project in Prieska, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.
  • Momentous Rustmo 1: Acted as advisors to the lenders in relation to the structuring of the 7MW solar PV project on Spruitfontein farm, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.
  • Abengoa Solar Ventures/Industrial Development Corporation: Acted as advisors to the sponsors in relation to the structuring of the 100 MW KaXu solar CSP project, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.
  • Abengoa Solar Ventures/Industrial Development Corporation:  Acted as advisor to the sponsors in relation to the structuring of the 50 MW Khi solar CSP project, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.

Round 2 of the SA REIPPPP

  • Tsitsikamma: Acted as advisors to Nedbank Capital (a division of Nedbank Limited) in relation to the structuring of the 93MW Tsitsikamma wind project in Tsitsikamma, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.

Round 3 of the SA REIPPP

  • Total Mulilo Prieska PV: Acting as advisors to the borrower in relation to the structuring of the 75MW solar PV project in Prieska, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.
  • Longyuan Mulilo De Aar 1: Acting as advisor to the lenders in relation to the structuring of the 100.5MW wind project in De Aar, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.
  • Longyuan Mulilo De Aar  2 North: Acting as advisor to the lenders in relation to the structuring of the 140MW wind project in De Aar, as well as the debt and equity financing of the development, construction and operation of the project.

Round 4 of the SA REIPPP

  • Advised various sponsors in bid preparation for Round 4 bid submission.

Other experience

  • Acted as advisors to Lender Consortium of 9 lenders relative to a ZAR6 billion facilities provided to MTN Group Limited and its subsidiaries and refinancing and increase of facilities.
