Biography

Craig Hickey is a banking and finance lawyer based in Calgary, acting for borrowers, lenders, private equity institutions, receivers and monitors. 

Craig offers a broad range of services, and his practice has focused on domestic and cross-border syndicated and bi-lateral lending arrangements, project finance, mergers and acquisitions finance, reserve and asset-based lending, and insolvency and distressed-debt arrangements.

  • Acted for the lenders in multi-billion dollar Cedar LNG Project, a floating liquified natural gas facility majority owned by the Haisla Nation, located on the west coast of British Columbia, a “first of its kind” in Canada.
  • Acted for TransAlta Corp. in its $658 million acquisition of Heartland Generation Ltd. and its power generation business in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Acted for Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, owners of the Calgary Flames hockey franchise and other professional and amateur sports organizations in Alberta, in its comprehensive transactions with The City of Calgary, the Calgary Stampede and various other stakeholders. These transactions involved the construction and long-term operation and management of the new $800 million Calgary Event Centre, as well as significant public infrastructure work in surrounding areas.
  • Acted for CAE Inc. on various senior debt financings, including US$550 million of senior unsecured notes in private placement.
  • Acted for Mountain Equipment Co-Op and Peavey Industries Group in their CCAA restructuring proceedings.
  • Acted for secured lenders of Q’Max Energy, AQT Water Management, and Frog Lake Midstream.
