Biography

Bernd Schneider is a real estate lawyer based in Hamburg.

He advises both national and international clients on real estate law issues. In particular, he focuses on all aspects of private construction law including the law of architects and engineers. He is a certified specialized lawyer in architectural and construction law (Fachanwalt für Bau- und Architektenrecht).

Bernd advises principals and contractors in all phases of construction projects. He regularly drafts and negotiates construction related agreements and advises on legal issues arising during execution of construction projects such as change orders and obstructions. He represents parties of construction projects in complex matters related to defects and claims for extension of time and additional compensation. He also advises on resolution of construction disputes.

He is regularly involved in major real estate transactions, project developments and PPP projects. In this context he contributes to the construction related parts of the contractual framework considering in particular the allocation of construction related risks and the interface to the financing.

Before joining us, Bernd had been working with another major international law firm in Hamburg.

He is a native German speaker and fluent in English.

  • Rechtsanwalt 1997
  • Landmark building in a new quarter in Hamburg: Representation of a construction manager in a lawsuit regarding alleged defects with a value of over EUR 15 million. Negotiation of an amicable settlement with the buyer of the building. Filing of claims for recourse against several subcontractors with diverging and interfering roles.
  • Advice to and representation of a developer regarding the conversion of an office high-rise building into a residential building. Drafting of contracts for planning services and work. Advice on daily matters of the construction site, such as delays, modifications to specification, securities etc..
  • Advice to the financing parties in a public procurement procedure for a PPP-project in Germany. The project includes the refurbishment of approximately 65 km of motorway and also a thirty year operation and maintenance. Contribution to major project documents for construction and operation considering all interfaces to the financing agreements.
  • Advice to the buyer of a commercial property partly still under construction (forward deal) considering in particular the requirements to construction agreements to be transferred to the buyer.
