Biography
Romy is a senior associate in the employment and labour team, working out of both the Durban and Cape Town offices.
Romy reports to Murray Alexander, the national head of employment and labour, and works closely with a number of directors. Romy has been involved in wide range of employment and labour matters and disputes. Her experience in this regard includes chairing disciplinary and appeal hearings; conducting internal company investigations; assisting with arbitrations in the CCMA and Bargaining Councils; opinion work and advising clients on complex employment-related legal and regulatory issues; drafting employment contracts, policies, procedures, and service level and labour-broking agreements; and litigation in the Labour Courts. In addition, Romy has presented a number of webinars and seminars for clients dealing with case law updates and amendments to legislation, on topics such as harassment in the workplace, employment equity, and occupational health and safety.
Apart from purely employment and labour matters, Romy's is involved in a number of commercial litigation and administrative law litigation matters out of the Magistrates' and High Courts.
Romy obtained BMus (2016) and Postgraduate LLB (2019) degrees from the University of Cape Town. She completed her articles at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa Inc (NRF), and spent equal parts thereof in the insurance litigation and employment and labour teams. Romy was retained in the employment and labour team at the beginning of 2022.
Romy currently represents NRF in her capacity as the President of the SASLAW KwaZulu-Natal Chapter for the 2023/2024 term.
