Biography

Guy is an asset finance lawyer based in London, focused on shipping and aviation finance and transactional matters. He advises lenders, export credit agencies, private equity funds and owners/operators in the shipping, commercial aviation, business jet and helicopter sectors.

On the shipping side, Guy advises on pre- and post-delivery financing (including export credit) and associated security, newbuildings, sale and purchase, chartering and other transactional matters. He advises on shipping leasing, debt finance, as well as second-hand and new aircraft sale and purchase and registration matters.

Guy has spent time on secondment at a leading Swedish bank, assisting its global ship finance team.

  • two US private equity funds on a large due diligence review of non-performing loans and security being sold by a German shipping bank

  • the agent and security trustee and a syndicate of international banks as lenders and swap providers on a US$223m FSRU financing for a leading LNG operator

  • a European bank on the sale of a number of warehoused vessels

  • the agent and security agent for a syndicate of banks for a secured revolving and guarantee facility made available to Stena AB (publ) for general corporate purposes

  • a large New York-listed Greek tanker owner on more than fifteen debt financings over several years with different European lenders

  • the lenders on a KfW/Hermes-supported financing of the two new building cruise ships ordered at Meyer Werft

  • a cruise company on the post-delivery financing of four river cruise vessels being constructed at a German shipyard. The financing benefited from support under the German CIRR ship finance programme and from Hermes

  • The Royal Bank of Scotland plc on a US$2.2bn restructuring of the NYSE-listed Danaos Corporation, one of the world's largest independent owners of modern, large-size containerships

  • a private equity fund on its acquisition, work-out and disposal of a portfolio of more than 30 distressed Greek shipping and property loans

  • the lenders financing the purchase of eight chemical tankers by a Turkish based shipowner; the tankers were sold to the purchasing shipowner by the insolvency administrator of the assets of a German KG fund

  • for a Russian airline and its affiliated companies, on an ongoing basis, on its aircraft lease agreements and arrangements, and the sale of various aircraft to different third parties

  • a Scandinavian airline on the negotiation of JOLCOs and other operating leases with different counterparties, and the delivery of the relevant aircraft

  • for a private bank on the debt-financing and finance-leasing of business jets for ultra high-net-worth individuals.
