Biography

Susannah Russell is an associate in the Disputes team in London with a focus on Insurance, Reinsurance & Cyber disputes. 

Susannah joined Norton Rose Fulbright in October 2019 prior to which she trained and qualified into Clyde & Co LLP's global insurance practice.  Susannah has therefore gained experience across a wide range of insurance business lines with a specific focus on Property & Liability, Business Interruption Losses, Warranty & Indemnity and traditional insurance and reinsurance disputes in the general liability field.  Work in these areas includes providing coverage advice, advising on policy wordings, defending insurers against policyholder claims, issuing subrogated recovery claims against third parties and defending policyholders against third party claims.

Susannah additionally has experience in non-contentious advisory work including drafting policy documents and binding authority agreements.  Her practice has recently expanded into cyber where she has represented a number of insureds in relation to third party claims arising out of cyber incidents.

  • Advising and coordinating client response to the various exposures arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic including assessments of the more complex business interruption claims attributed to its various property and commercial products in addition to advising on the impact of the FCA Test Case on such exposures.
  • Acting for a client in its defence following a claim issued in the Commercial Court in respect of a coverage decision made under a Commercial policy following a fire at the Claimant (and Insured's) Property.
  • Representing a Lloyd's of London Syndicate in two concurrent arbitrations under the Lloyds Arbitration Scheme.
  • Advising a client on a wholesale restructuring and standardisation programme of its main businesses both in terms of its binding authority agreements with coverholders and sub-coverholders and across all lines of business written.
