Biography

Angela Paschalides is a banking and finance lawyer based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Angela focusses on commercial law and her experience includes general commercial drafting, primarily in relation to trade and commodity finance, local and cross-border lending, property finance, preference share finance and general banking and finance related work. She has been involved in several cross-border transactions in the financial, trade and shipping sectors. Angela assists with the preparation, negotiation, and finalising of various related transaction documents, including English law governed agreements.

Angela is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. She completed her practical vocational training as a Candidate Attorney at another leading law firm from 2020 to 2021 and began her career with the firm in 2022 as an Associate Designate.

Angela holds a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Law and Criminology) and a Bachelor of Laws (Cum Laude with Honorary Academic Colours) from the University of the Pretoria. She was on the University of Pretoria’s Deans list and is a member of the Golden Key International Honours Society. Angela also served on the Executive Committee of the University of Pretoria’s law student representative body, Law House.

  • Attorney, qualified in South Africa 2022
  • Acted as the lead associate advising Columbus Stainless Proprietary Limited as borrower, in relation to a revolving borrowing base finance facility agreement with amongst others, Deutsche Bank AG as mandated lead arranger, and guaranteed by the Spanish incorporated parent company.
  • Acted as the lead associate advising various lenders, including Citibank N.A., Royal Bank of Canada and Absa Bank Limited, in relation to an English law governed revolving credit facility agreement, including an embedded guarantee.
  • Acted as the lead associate advising The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking Division) and Masheqbank psc, as joint initial mandated lead arrangers, bookrunners and global coordinators, in relation to an English law governed Term SOFR facility provided to the state-owned Development Bank of Southern Africa Limited by a syndicate of nine local and international lenders.
  • Acted as the lead associate advising Prescient Investment Management Limited (acting as agent on behalf of Prescient Clean Energy and Infrastructure Debt Fund) in relation to a secured term facility provided to Witberg RROT Proprietary Limited as borrower. The facility will be used towards, amongst other things, the construction, operation and maintenance of the Witberg Wind Farm in the Western Cape, which will be the largest private wind farm constructed in South Africa, with a nameplate capacity of 108MW and a contracted capacity of 103MW.
  • Acted as South African legal counsel to various lenders, including UBS Switzerland AG and CA Indosuez (Switzerland) S.A., in relation to the refinancing of a secured uncommitted borrowing base revolving credit facility agreement with the option of an accordion increase.
