Biography

Giota Skiathiti is a financial services lawyer based in London. She specialises in financial services regulation with a particular focus on the wholesale sector and the financial services law aspects of corporate transactions.

Giota regularly advises clients from both the wholesale and retail sectors on a wide range of UK and EU financial services regulatory matters, including clearing and reporting obligations, derivatives trading and clearing documentation, change in control and financial services law matters in mergers and acquisitions, and retail financial services law requirements. 

Before joining the firm, Giota spent almost 3 years working in reputable international law firms in the capital markets and structured finance sector.

Giota is qualified in Greece and registered with the Athens Bar Association.

  • Advising a major investment bank on the negotiation of cleared OTC derivative transactions with its clients.

  • Advising a US investment firm on the financial services law requirements related to its M&A transactions involving UK regulated entities.

  • Advising a trading platform provider on the compliance of the full suite of its default trading customer agreements with the UK financial services regulation.

  • Advising a trading platform provider on the compliance of its margin trading agreement with the UK Consumer Duty requirements.

  • Advising an investment firm on matters related to the compliance with reporting and collateral obligations and the applicable relevant exemptions under the EU and UK EMIR.

  • Advising a credit institution on the regulatory updates and the applicability of the FCA Handbook, the PRA Rulebook and the onshored EU financial services regulation in respect of its business activities in the UK.
