Biography

Patrick is a dispute resolution and litigation lawyer based in London. He focuses on insurance and reinsurance (with a particular emphasis on marine, energy, power and political risks/violence claims) and shipping disputes/marine casualties.

Patrick represents insurers and reinsurers in respect of claims under marine hull and machinery, mortgagee's interest, war, loss of hire, cargo, charterers' liability, ports and terminals, general liability and P&I policies. Patrick has been instructed on many of the most high-profile marine casualties over recent years. He also acts for a number of clients who operate in the specialised offshore and heavy lift industries.

A significant part of Patrick's practice involves advising energy insurers/reinsurers (both offshore and onshore) in respect of claims under construction and operational policies, and he has advised on many significant energy losses worldwide. He also advises insurers/reinsurers on claims involving the power market.

Patrick regularly advises political risk and political violence insurers/reinsurers and has handled claims in various jurisdictions including India, Thailand, Libya, Syria, Algeria, Pakistan, Bahrain and South Sudan.

Patrick has spoken at a number of the leading conferences in his field, including the Lillehammer Energy Claims Conference, the Asia Offshore Energy Conference and the International Marine Claims Conference in Dublin. He is the joint author of Good Faith and Insurance Contracts (3rd edition – published by Informa). Patrick is an ad hoc adviser to the London Marine Claims Committee.

Patrick is identified as a “ranked lawyer” in Chambers 2016 (both UK and Global) for insurance and shipping claims. He is described as being “extremely good on marine insurance disputes … his reputation in marine matters is very strong … retains a really good place in the energy market”. Patrick is identified as a “leading individual” in Legal 500 (2016) for shipping claims and is described as “outstanding”.
