Norton Rose Fulbright adds a corporate and M&A partner in Melbourne

Press release - People October 2018

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that James Crowe has joined the national corporate and M&A team, bringing strong links to clients in the technology, telecommunications, infrastructure and agribusiness sectors.
A leading M&A lawyer, Mr Crowe is the former head of Herbert Smith Freehills’ corporate team in Melbourne, where he managed the accounts of several major clients, including Telstra, Murray Goulburn and Asciano.
Mr Crowe has deep technology sector expertise and has acted for global and domestic technology companies, venture capital funds and founders. During the last year he has been working with leading startups, business figures and the Victorian Government to support the Australian start-up ecosystem. In addition to his legal qualifications, Mr Crowe holds a degree in computer science, majoring in artificial intelligence.
Mr Crowe’s award-winning work in legal innovation has received global recognition, including by Harvard University, the US Association of Corporate Counsel and the Financial Times. He is passionate about co-developing innovative solutions with clients and making legal expertise available in an efficient technology-enabled manner.
Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia Wayne Spanner commented:
“James’ appointment comes at an important time for our firm, which is investing in its national corporate and M&A offering at the same time as we are increasing our pipeline of innovative products and services in collaboration with our clients. James’s decades of experience on major deals for the tech and telco industries in particular will be a huge benefit to our clients and our people.”
Mr Crowe commented:
“I was attracted to Norton Rose Fulbright because of its focus on the technology sector as an area of strategic importance, together with its commitment to legal innovation. I’m a strong believer in working closely with clients to solve problems, from the largest multinationals to emerging start-ups and entrepreneurs. I’m looking forward to adding my experience to the work already underway at the firm, along with getting involved in its growing portfolio of large-scale corporate and M&A deals.”
Mr Crowe’s appointment is the latest example of the firm’s continued investment in its corporate and M&A capability. In August it announced that Paul Lingard and Miriam D’Souza will be joining as partners in the corporate and M&A team in Perth to advise the energy, resources and infrastructure industries. In the past year the firm has also added corporate and M&A partners Gavin Scott, Natalie Lonergan, Jasmine Sprange, Martin Irwin, Adam Edelman and Shamim Razavi (from our Indonesian associate firm, TNB & Partners).
