Biography
Gillian is an employment lawyer based in Cape Town. She has served as an acting judge of the Labour Court and has over 25 years of extensive experience in advising both public (including parastatals and municipalities) and private sector clients on all aspects of employment law, including advising state owned entities and municipalities in relation to the interface between administrative and employment law; conducting human resources/employee related due diligences; advising on the transfer of employees in terms of section 197 of the Labour Relations Act; conducting large scale retrenchments; representing clients in employment disputes; drafting contracts of employment and employee policies and procedures; advising in relation to organisational rights and collective bargaining.

- Representing clients in wage negotiations, during strike action and lock-outs, consultations regarding the implementation of strike and picketing rules, retrenchments and other matters involving collective bargaining or mutual interests such as negotiating changes to codes and procedures.
Dispute Resolution
- Representing clients in proceedings before the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, Bargaining Councils, the Labour Court, and the Labour Appeal Court.
- Negotiating settlements of labour disputes.
- Chambers Global 2021 - 2023 ranked Gillian in Band 3 for Employment and from 2017 - 2020 she was ranked in Band 4 for Employment.
- Legal 500 EMEA 2017- 2023 recommended Gillian in employment. In 2010 and 2012 - 2014 she was recommended in labour and employment and commended her for having 'excellent credentials'
