US and Canadian wealth and private client lawyers receive top rankings in Chambers High Net Worth Guide

Global Press release - Recognition July 9, 2020

For the fifth successive year, Norton Rose Fulbright’s wealth and private client teams in both Canada and the US received high rankings in the Chambers and Partners’ High Net Worth 2020 guide. Our Canadian team received a Band 1 ranking in Private Wealth Law for the third year straight, while our US team received a Band 2 ranking in the same category.

In the Chambers High Net Worth guide, a Chambers and Partners publication focused specifically on the private wealth market, Canadian partners Carmen Thériault, QC (Band 1), Kirsten Jenkins (Band 3), Laura West (Band 3) and the newly recognized Amanda Stacey (Band 3) are all individually ranked for private wealth law in 2020, alongside US counterparts Joe Sleeth (Band 2) and Celeste Lawton (Band 3).

The guide covers work in "private wealth management and related specialties in key jurisdictions around the world, featuring in-depth editorials about the leading lawyers and law firms for wealthy individuals and families." Results are based on independent research done by the publication. The Chambers High Net Worth Guide is an internationally curated publication which ranks lawyers and law firms operating in the private wealth sector. Band 1 is the highest attainable ranking available collectively for a law firm.

In Canada, Thériault leads the wealth management team in Vancouver, acting for families who control or have a significant ownership interest in large, privately held companies or public companies. Jenkins’ practice focuses on advising individuals and families regarding estate planning, business succession and incapacity matters. West and Stacey advise clients with respect to similar matters and also charitable giving strategies, including through the use of foundations and other structures, with West practising out of our Vancouver office and Stacey out of our Toronto office.

In the US, both Sleeth and Lawton are members of our long-standing trusts and estates team. Sleeth’s practice focuses on wealth transfer planning, with an emphasis on the transfer of family or privately-held businesses, while Lawton’s practice is focused on estate planning and estate administration for wealthy families and individuals.
