James “Jake” Shultz is an associate in Norton Rose Fulbright's San Antonio office and is a member of the firm's dispute resolution and litigation group. His practice includes a wide variety of disputes including matters involving energy (including oil and gas), commercial, intellectual property and personal injury disputes.

Jake has a Bachelor of Science in Geoscience and a Master of Science in Energy and Earth Resources.  During his graduate studies, he served as a Graduate Research Assistant for the University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology. Prior to law school, he worked as a geologist and geoscientist for a major oil and gas company. Among other things, Jake managed both operated and non-operated upstream unconventional assets across the United States and Canada, including leading technical projects such as prospect generation, opportunity maturation, development plan design, multi-reservoir development, operations, drilling programs (including geosteering) and regulatory interface.

While in law school, Jake was a member of the Baylor Barrister Society and successfully competed for Baylor on multiple national mock trial teams and served as a judicial intern for the Hon. Jeffrey C. Manske, Western District of Texas. 

Jake was licensed to practice law in Texas in 2023 and admitted to both the Western District of Texas and the Eastern District of Texas in 2024.

Prior to joining the firm, Jake clerked for the Hon. Alan D Albright, Western District of Texas.
