Norton Rose Fulbright expands Technology Consulting Practice with key hire

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has announced its hire of Madeline Bailey, who joins as the Co-Head of its Technology Consulting Practice. She will be based in London. 

Madeline was previously Global Head of Strategic Initiatives at leading global specialty commercial insurer and reinsurer MS Amlin, where she established the MS Amlin Edge initiative exploring the latest megatrends globally in digital, business models and (re)insurance. She has also served on the boards of the various MGA/service companies in the UK, Europe, Singapore, Dubai, the US and India.

At MS Amlin, Madeline was an industry collaborator involved in establishing the first commercial blockchain platform for marine insurance, Insurwave, alongside global logistics group A.P. Møller – Mærsk and other industry collaborators, led by consulting firm EY. In 2019, Madeline set up her own consulting business, where she supported Insurwave standing up its management team and operation, in London, as well as working on other consulting projects focused on digitalisation in insurance.

Madeline Bailey joins Peter McBurney, Professor of Computer Science and former Head of the Department of Informatics at Kings College London, to lead the Technology Consulting Practice. The practice, which launched in March 2019, provides strategic and practical advice to help clients take full advantage of new and emerging technologies, particularly related to artificial intelligence (AI), distributed ledger technologies (DLT) (including Blockchain) and cryptocurrencies. By combining the practice’s deep technological knowledge with the firm’s extensive legal and regulatory expertise, Norton Rose Fulbright can advise clients across all sectors around the world on all aspects of the adoption, development and implementation of these emerging technologies.

The Technology Consulting Practice recently advised on a first-of-its-kind insurance solution for digital assets. The practice provided technical advice to Lloyd’s underwriter Arch in relation to “Blue Vault”, a new solution to provide insurance protection for the secure vault storage of private keys for digital assets such as bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The Blue Vault solution was developed in collaboration with Marsh, a leading global insurance broker and risk adviser.
