Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised GreenWish Partners, a renewable energy investment company, on its partnership with global energy-focussed private equity firm Denham Capital to develop, build and finance a portfolio of 600 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy assets in sub-Saharan Africa.
The capital commitment will allow GreenWish Partners to carry out a USD$1 billion project pipeline.
GreenWish Partners was founded in 2010 by Charlotte Aubin Kalaidjian and joined by Gilles Parmentier in 2014 to build a renewable energy investment platform dedicated to sub-Saharan Africa. GreenWish Partners covers the full value chain of African solar market, directly with public and private counterparts or through partnerships with corporates, industrials, developers and local governments. GreenWish already manages GreenWish Africa REN, a first vehicle whose shareholders include the Caisse des Dépôts of Senegal.
Denham Capital has more than USD$8.4 billion of invested and committed capital across seven fund vehicles and offices in London, Boston, Houston, and Perth. The firm makes direct investments in the energy and resources sectors, including businesses involving power generation, oil and gas, and mining, across the globe and all stages of the corporate lifecycle.
The Norton Rose Fulbright team that advised GreenWish Partners was led by partner Bayo Odubeko and included in London senior associate Chantelle Zemba (corporate), associate Krystal Jumbo (corporate), partner Matt Findley (tax), senior associate Andrew Roycroft (tax), partner Catrina Smith (employment), and associate Sophie Lees (IP). Partners Bart Le Blanc (tax) and Heimon Smits (corporate) and Of Counsel Stefanie Walthaus (corporate) of the firm’s Amsterdam office advised on Dutch aspects of the deal. Partner Antoine Colonna (tax), partner Karine Montagut (corporate), associate Alexis De Foucault (corporate) and associate Elodie Grangier (employment) from Norton Rose Fulbright in Paris provided French law advice. Partner Michael P. Flamenbaum of the firm’s New York office advised on US law.
Bayo Odubeko commented: “We are delighted to advised GreenWish Partners on its partnership with Denham Capital. Power generation capacity is limited in sub-Saharan Africa and there is great demand for competitive, innovative and sustainable renewable energy solutions to alleviate the continent’s electricity shortage.”
