Biography

Shea Haass is a member of Norton Rose Fulbright's globally recognized dispute resolution practice. His practice focuses on healthcare and complex commercial disputes. He maintains a nationwide litigation and arbitration practice and has secured significant settlements, court judgments and arbitration awards for plaintiffs and defendants.

Shea routinely represents health care providers, including hospitals, multi-hospital systems, ambulatory surgery centers, and physician groups. He has extensive experience litigating managed care and billing and reimbursement disputes for in-network and out-of-network providers. He also has extensive experience litigating complex commercial cases including contract, trade secret, and class action cases.

  • Represented large hospital systems in dozens of American Arbitration Association (AAA), American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (JAMS) arbitrations securing recoveries for underpayment and wrongful denial of health care claims 
  • Represented large hospital system against health plan, third-party administrator and plan sponsor in federal court proceedings securing recovery for underpayment of drug infusions 
  • Represented large hospital systems in dozens of arbitrations against major payors securing recoveries for late payments under the Texas Prompt Pay Act 
  • Successfully defended ambulatory surgery centers in Texas court putative class action proceedings involving allegations of "surprise billing" by out-of-network anesthesia providers 
  • Successfully defended ambulatory surgery centers in payor refund dispute involving claims of fraud and breach of contract
  • Represented healthcare provider in federal court proceedings securing preliminary and final injunctions for misappropriation of trade secrets
  • Represented emergency and anesthesia provider groups in numerous arbitrations under the No Surprises Act
  • Represented emergency and anesthesia provider groups in numerous arbitrations and mediations under Texas Senate Bill 1264 
  • Represented state-affiliated hospital system in parallel Texas state court and federal court proceedings relating to Texas Whistleblower Act, wrongful demotion and defamation claims

  • Represented institutional lender in federal court proceedings involving breach of financing contracts securing judgment for $13.6 million 
  • Represented oilfield services company in Texas state court proceedings concerning misappropriation of trade secrets securing temporary restraining order and injunction 
  • Represented casino and gaming company in federal court proceedings concerning breach of non-compete agreement and misappropriation of trade secrets securing preliminary and final injunctions 
  • Represented real estate developer in Texas state court proceedings securing removal of liens fraudulently placed on commercial development property
  • Represented Malaysian toy products manufacturer in federal court proceedings involving disputed consulting commissions
  • Represented licensor of purified terephthalic acid technology in CIETAC arbitration proceedings involving Chinese licensee's misappropriation of trade secrets
  • Represented oilfield services company in ICC Arbitration proceedings involving dispute with a Saudi joint venture partner
  • Represented construction firm in Texas state court proceedings relating to personal injury claims involving the collapse of a structure
  • Represented wireless telecommunications provider in AAA arbitration concerning disputed patent infringement indemnification obligations
  • Represented investor in Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) proceedings concerning real estate investment
